Update 16th July 2009
1) Gradings
Next Grading will be on Sunday 26th July.
This will be followed a week later (2nd August) by a supplemental grading for those unable to do the week before (e.g. due to holidays).
Times will be as normal training start times (though there may need to be some flexibility in when the finish is).
Those not grading are welcome to still come along to do some training, to take part if possible (e.g. doing the techniques along with the graders), and to support your fellows.
To aid in the organisation of the event it would be helpful for me to know if you are considering grading, so please either email me (secretary@scrutonkarate.org.uk, or reply to this email) or phone me (07867 822567).
As outlined in the training handbook -
To grade a Karateka requires:
- A current licence
- A clean karate suit and belt
- Kyu grading fee £8.00 for under 16 years and £11.00 for 16 years and over
- Gum shield for sparring if you have one
- A top to wear to keep you warmed up before your grading
Grading has been left open for people to attempt should they wish, but everyone should consider carefully whether they feel they are ready for their next grade before investing their energy (and money).
Please do not feel pressured to grade each time - you need to be ready for the step up to the next grade, and ultimately the examiners will need to see that you are as well.
It is important for the club and the other members that standards are maintained, so it can be better to take some further time to work on your techniques, than take it too early and fail the grading.
There will be another grading in 4 months time, and there is always the flexibility for those that are ready to grade within that period - provided they haven't failed a grading, as the minimum time between gradings is 4 months.
Gradings will include potentially all the elements of the syllabus for your next grade.
Any technique or kata from you previous grades may also be included, with the expectation that they are performed at the level expected at your next grade.
Also, for intermediate grades and above, students will be expected to know their syllabus without prompting.
If you need any advice, want any feedback, or have any concerns then please do not hesitate to contact us.
2) Training 19th July
There is no training next week (19th July) due to the Big Lunch on the playing field (and also using the 'facilities' in the hall).
3) Wednesday Training through the summer
Training on a Wednesday has stopped for the summer and will restart on Wednesday 2nd. September.
4) Sunday Training through the summer
Training on a Sunday will stop for the summer from the 9th August and restart Sunday 6th September.
